An Independent Educational Consultant (IEC) is a private advisor who provides personalized, one-on-one guidance to students and families as they navigate educational, college, and career planning. IECs help students explore options, clarify goals, and develop individualized strategies for post-secondary pathways based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.

School counselors, support large caseloads within a school setting and balance academic scheduling, graduation requirements, and general advising, IECs offer more focused and flexible support outside of the school system. This allows for a more individualized planning and consistent attention to each student’s unique journey.

Both IECs and school counselors play important roles in supporting students, but IECs provide a highly personalized approach to planning that centers entirely on the student’s goals and long-term success.
